1996 Suzuki Esteem

The Suzuki Esteem was produced from 1995 through 2007. In North America and Europe, it was discontinued after 2002. The Esteem was an important vehicle for Suzuki, as it represented their introduction into the C-Segment on the global market. It faced steep competition from other prominent and well known marques such as Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Opel. The Corolla and the Golf both were well known and respected, making the job of the Esteem even more difficult.

The Suzuki Esteem sat atop a platform which it shared with the Suzuki Swift, though its wheelbase size was enlarged to improve interior cabin room. Its wheelbase measured 97.6-inches. Mounted under the hood was a wide selection of engines throughout the production lifespan, including a 1.9-liter Diesel option. The four-cylinder gasoline engines included a 1.3, 1.6, and 1.8 liter unit.

In 1996, Suzuki introduced a Wagon bodystyle, which was the marque's first station wagon. Optional equipment included a four-wheel drive system.

In 1999, the Suzuki was treated to a restyling, mostly to the frontal area. It was given a rounder grille and new headlights.
