1949 Veritas BMW Rennsport Spyder

Veritas was founded by Ernst Loof, Georg Meier and Lorenz Dietrich (3 BMW employees) and based in West Germany in the village of Hausen am Andelsbach, near Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg, later at Meßkirch and Muggensturm and moved finally to the Nürburgring. These three individuals were soldiers who, during the occupation of Paris, had planned to produce a sports car after the war. However, since the occupying forces did not permit the manufacturer of proper engines, Veritas acquired and prepared old BMW 328 units.

Karl Kling drove a Veritas in 1947 earning the German 2-liter championship and a victory at Hockenheim. He also won on the Nurburgring circuit in 1949. The first Veritas to be built for normal road use followed in 1949 with the introduction of the Komet Coupe. This was followed by the 2+2 Saturn coupe and Scorpion cabriolet, both wearing styling by Ben Bowden.

The Veritas RS was essentially a re-built BMW 328 with an aerodynamic body. Power was from the original 2-liter BMW 328 chassis and running gear. The early cars were called BMW-Veritas until objections from BMW led the cars to be renamed the Veritas Rennsport Spyder.
