THREE FORD FIESTA STS IN THE HUNT FOR THE RED BULL GLOBAL RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

November 4, 2014 by Ford

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Nov. 3, 2014– They say the best title fights take place in Las Vegas. And this week, there's an epic battle shaping up on a temporary course at The LINQ Hotel and Casino.

The Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) driver championship will come down to an all-out title fight Wednesday night as three Ford Racing drivers - Joni Wiman, Ken Block, and Nelson Piquet Jr. – are among the four drivers still in championship contention heading into the season's final race.

Olsbergs MSE's Joni Wiman leads the Red Bull GRC point standings. Wiman, a rookie, has steadily improved throughout the season and collected four podium finishes, three of which have come in the last three races.

'It has all been about consistency and I have been improving race by race,' said Wiman. 'It takes clean races now and a podium finish.'

Block heads into Las Vegas currently second in the point standings, 12 points out of first. The Hoonigan Racing Division (HRD) driver started the season with some bad luck, but quickly turned that around and claimed five podium finishes, including a race win at Charlotte.

'I had some bad luck in the beginning of the year but then consistent and very quick driving led to five podiums in a row,' said Block. 'To win the championship I need to drive fast, consistent, and be smart about getting points.'

SH Rallycross driver, Piquet Jr. currently sits in third-place, 28 points outside of first. This season, Piquet Jr. has claimed four podium finishes, including a bronze medal at X Games. Piquet Jr., a Red Bull GRC rookie this year, knows he will need to leave it all on the track in Las Vegas.

'It took a lot of calm, patience, speed and a good team effort to get where we are,' said Piquet Jr. 'Heading into Las Vegas we have to score as many points as we can. We are going to be 110 percent until the end of the championship.'
