1974 MG MGB MKIII

MG introduced the 'B' in May of 1962 as a replacement for the MG A. Initially a four-cylinder roadster, it was later joined by a coupe with 2+2 seating in 1965. Instead of the traditional body-on-frame construction, the MGB used a monocoque structure that reduced weight and increased rigidity and strength. The comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom and wind-up windows were standard. The three-bearing 1,798cc B-Series engine provided brisk performance with zero-to-sixty mph accomplished in just over eleven seconds.

The 1974 MGB Mark III was available as either a roadster or GT Coupe. The base engine continued to be an overhead-valve four-cylinder engine displacing 109.8 cubic inches and offering nearly 80-horsepower. A V8 engine was available, bringing horsepower to 137 HP. This was the final year for the Mark III version and received very few changes. The most noticeable were larger bumper guards. The standard transmission was a four-speed manual with synchromesh on all gears. Disc brakes were in the front with drums at the rear.

The base price for the MGB rose by over $600 over the prior year.
