VOLKSWAGEN ISSUES VOLUNTARY RECALL
December 8, 2014 by VolkswagenHerndon, VA - Volkswagen considers the safety and satisfaction of its consumers and passengers a top priority. As such, Volkswagen of America today notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will be issuing a voluntary safety recall affecting the panoramic sunroof on certain 2013-2015 model year Volkswagen Beetle vehicles. The recall affects approximately 7,000 Volkswagen Beetle vehicles from the 2013-2015 model years. In isolated cases, it is possible that the glass panoramic sunroof may break and glass can fall into the interior of the vehicle. If the glass panel were to break while the vehicle is in motion, it could cause driver distraction, increasing the risk of a crash. To fix the issue, authorized Volkswagen dealers will replace the panoramic sliding sunroof in the affected vehicles at no cost to customers. No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported. Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
