1994 Pontiac Firebird

For 1994, the Pontiac Firebird was available as the base model, Formula, and Trans Am. Whereas the 1993 model was only available as a coupe, the 1994 model could be purchased as either a coupe or convertible, with the convertible part of the GT series. Pricing began at just under $14,000 and rose to nearly $26,500 for the Firebird Trans Am GT convertible.

Standard equipment on the Firebird included four-wheel anti-lock brakes, stainless steel exhaust system, low oil level monitor and warning, front air dam, tinted glass, fixed mast antenna, one-piece resilient body-color bumpers/fascias, GM Computer Command control, and dual front airbags. Other standard items included a locking glovebox, reclining front bucket seats and folding rear seats, Pass-Key II theft-deterrent system, tilt-wheel adjustable steering column, controlled-cycle windshield wipers, rear decklid spoiler, Metrix cloth fabric interior and side window defogger.

A new color joined the options list for 1994, Dark Aqua Metallic. Other new options and amenities included a floodlit interior door switches, compact disc player without the equalizer, visor straps, Delco Series radio, driver-selectable automatic transmission controls, four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, six-speed transmission 3.2:1 axle ratio, six-speed transmission 1-4 gear skip shift feature, 5.7 liter Mass Air Flow Control system, 5.7-liter SFI V8, and two-component clearcoat paint. Cars fitted with V8 engines and automatic gearboxes were given traction control.

A special, low production 'Firehawk' model was produced by SLP Engineering Inc. of Toms River, New Jersey. A total of 250 cars were built and based on the 1994 Pontiac Formula Coupe. They were sold through Pontiac dealers with GMAC financing available. These Firehawk models were essential road racing cars fitted with a six-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic, in hardtop or T-top versions. They had Firehawk graphics on the car, twin hood scoops (dubbed 'functional cold air induction', and powered by a 5.-7 liter V8 offering 300 horsepower. The engine had a compression ratio of 10.25:1 and could go from zero-to-sixty in just 4.9 seconds. These low production, special models sold for $24,200.

Pontiac celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Trans Am in 1994 with a special edition model painted in white with a single dark blue stripe down the center of the vehicle, reminiscent of the 1970 Trans Am. It rode on white-painted, five-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels and was available in either coupe or convertible configuration. The interior received white leather seats and door trim. Just 2,000 examples of the 1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 25th Anniversary were built.
