Italian thoroughbreds to feature prominently at Bonhams Quail Lodge auctionNumerous iconic and desirable models from Ferrari, Lancia, Lamborghini and more contribute to growing anticipation for this approaching sale

San Francisco – Bonhams is delighted to announce its impressive assembly of Italian sports cars for its fast approaching 16th annual Carmel motorcar auction on August 16th.

After announcing earlier this spring the consignment of some truly exceptional and noteworthy Italian cars – most notably the one-off 1954 New York Auto Show, 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupé Vignale currently on display at Bonhams' Manhattan showrooms, the world record-holding auction house has added a number of thoroughbreds to its roster.

Leading this new stable of consignments is the exquisite 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II with coachwork by Pinin Farina. This expertly restored, matching numbers car has been documented from new by historian Marcel Massini and, complete with the extremely rare factory-delivered hard top, represents the epitome of Ferrari's mid-century fast and glamorous image of la dolce vita.

No less exciting is the former Brussels Motor Show 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS Cabriolet with coachwork by Pinin Farina. Also expertly restored with matching numbers, this Prancing Horse remained with its original European owner for more than 35 years.

Further notable Ferraris on offer include no fewer than two superb examples of the heralded 330 GTC, a platinum-winning 365 GTB/4 Daytona, and a wonderful Dino 246 GTS.

Another stand-out among the extensive list is a 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America with coachwork by Pinin Farina. One of 240 made and of 181 with left-hand drive, this utterly gorgeous sports car with its race-developed V-6 engine is the recipient of a recent quarter-million dollar restoration and is eligible for all the prestigious historic automobile events.

Further notable Lancias on offer include an untouched barn-find Stratos Stradale and a stunning Aurelia B24S Cabriolet.

For more modern tastes is a 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 'Periscopica'. With just over 53,000km from new, this matching numbers missile is one of only 150 created and is a pioneer of design whose paternity can be seen in the supercars of today.

More about these and many more Italian sports cars from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, FIAT, Lancia and Maserati offered at the 2013 Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction can be found at Bonhams.com/Quail.

The spacious and easily accessible Quail Lodge & Golf Club is located in sunny Carmel Valley, California. The auction will be held Friday, August 16th with preview days on the 14th and 15th.
