Brian Martin was from Dagenham, Essex, and later moved to Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. At the age of 18 years old, he began racing in an MG TA. Seeking more power, he later installed a Ford 105E engine. This MG-Ford later became known as the Martin BM1. The BM2 was a Lotus 7 modified with an independent rear suspension and fitted with a Diva body. The BM3 used the same chassis but was given a Martin-designed body. In 1967, the BM4 GT car was introduced. The BM5 was a 1968 GT Coupe fitted with a 1500cc pushrod Ford engine.His BM6 model of 1969 was a GT Coupe powered by a BMW 2-liter 4-cylinder engine and backed by a Hewland FT200 transaxle. The BM6 carried him to at least nine victories. In 1970, he built the BM7, which was an open-cockpit version. It also proved to be a very competitive racing machine, scoring at least 14 victories at club and national racing events.The BM8 was used to contest the European 2-Liter Championships series.
