•Hyundai Motor Company global executives Till Wartenberg, vice president of N Brand and motorsport sub-division and Hak Soo Ha, vice president of design, made a rare Canadian appearance, presenting at the event

Hyundai Auto Canada opened the long-anticipated return of the Canadian International Auto Show with two North American reveals worthy of the occasion. The Canadian auto show debut of the N Vision 74 and the North American reveal of the RN22e offered a glimpse into the brand's electrified future, showcasing Hyundai's cutting-edge zero-emissions technologies. These 'rolling labs' represent the company's continuous innovation and development in high-performance, electrified vehicles.

'We are thrilled to have two incredibly exciting reveals for our return to the Canadian International Auto Show — it's not often that Canada hosts a major reveal like that of the RN22e,' said Hyundai Canada president and CEO, Don Romano. 'At Hyundai, we believe it's important to have vehicles that suit every customer and every driver, including enthusiasts. N Vision 74 and RN22e push the limits of electrified high-performance cars, promising a future of sustainable driving fun.'

Rolling Labs: the key to Hyundai's future progress

Hyundai Motor's rolling labs are how it tests and verifies the company's advanced technologies to apply them to future production models. RN22e and N Vision 74 play an important role in the strategic development of the brand's entire product line-up, most notably its electrified, high-performance vehicles. As Hyundai N develops and verifies state-of-the-art technologies for transfer to N production models, both the RN22e and N Vision 74 play an important role as the rolling lab for upcoming EV N models.

'To show the future of N, we created two rolling labs simultaneously. These special vehicles were created specifically to experiment with motorsport technologies, bridging the gap between our race cars and production N models,' says Till Wartenberg, Hyundai Motor's vice president of N Brand & Motorsport Sub-Division. 'The RN22e represents our electrified high performance vision, previewing our driving experience and technologies of the next few years. The N Vision 74, on the other hand, raises the stakes much higher — it represents our high performance vision beyond electric cars.'

RN22e: previewing the electrified N brand's vision and direction

As Hyundai N's first rolling lab based on its market-leading Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the RN22e is based on the all-new 2023 IONIQ 6, but pushed to its maximum performance potential. Tested to maximize N's three performance pillars — corner rascal, racetrack capability and everyday sports car — the RN22e offers racetrack-ready performance and opens the possibility of a high-performance EV model in the future.

By adapting IONIQ 6's streamliner design, RN22e will leverage the new EV's aerodynamic features, maximizing performance through the addition of motorsports-inspired details. Through the lower ground clearance and emphasized shoulders, Hyundai N achieved a design with a wide and sturdy stance while potentially improving RN22e's cooling and aerodynamics.

'With this streamliner form, we've achieved a new level of aerodynamic efficiency. This is an entirely new typology in the EV space — a perfect marriage of clean powertrain technology and a shape that optimizes EV efficiency,' explains Hak Soo Ha, Hyundai Motor's vice president of design. 'With this shape, we've achieved the lowest drag coefficient of any Hyundai model ever built, not only optimizing efficiency, but also potential performance.'

RN22e plays an important role as the rolling lab for upcoming EV N models by enabling Hyundai N to develop and verify state-of-the-art technologies for transfer to N production models. Knowing what exhilarates enthusiasts, N is developing new features, such as N Sound+ and N e-shift to mimic sensory experiences of ICE vehicles, providing a dynamic driving experience in electrified models.

N Vision 74: the ultimate expression of N

N Vision 74 is the first high-performance rolling lab built on the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell system that Hyundai N has ever created, representing seven years of technological development. Rooted in N's sustainable vision announced in 2015 and Hyundai's passion for high performance, it pays homage to the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974 while also drawing inspiration from the 2025 Vision Gran Turismo hydrogen-powered concept. N Vision 74 elevates the daring attitude of the Pony Coupe concept into a future Hyundai design, with the signature Parametric Pixel lighting of the electrified IONIQ lineup providing a futuristic flourish.

The unique hybrid structure of the N Vision 74 combines battery-electric and FCEV systems, placed in an all-new layout. By having both a fuel cell system and battery-electric system powering the N Vision 74 together, the cooling efficiency is improved, while the two power sources can be used individually depending on different driving conditions. Along with long-range and fast refueling capabilities, N Vision 74 uses cutting-edge technologies to deliver consistent performance and the promise of unparalleled driving engagement.

The RN22e and N Vision 74 are on display in Hyundai's booth, along with segment-leading products such as the all-new 2023 IONIQ 6 and the highly-awarded IONIQ 5, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, February 17-26. For more information about the Hyundai lineup, visit hyundaicanada.com
