2009 SABA Carbon Zero

The Saba Carbon Zero Roadster is an electric-powered car that is true to its base location in Silicon Valley. The SABA Motor team is leveraging advanced technologies to achieve an affordable, al- electric, sporty roadster. The design consists of a combination of aluminum and steel to achieve light weight, strength, and rigidity. The vehicle is inherently low-cost and is easily scalable resulting in a very affordable high-performance roadster.

The SABA Carbon Zero Roadster is one of 43 teams that have been judged qualified to advance in the $10 million Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize, a competition to create viable and super fuel-efficient vehicles. Registration also opens for a national student contest to reinvent the automotive dashboard, sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The goal of the X-Prize is to inspire a new generation of viable, super-efficient vehicles that help break the addiction to oil and stem the effects of climate Change.

The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE Education Program, funded by a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, will engage students and the public in learning about advanced vehicle technologies, energy efficiency, climate change, alternative fuels, and the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) behind efficient vehicle development.

A key goal of this national program is to inspire youth to learn more about and pursue careers in advanced vehicle development, and to generate excitement about the energy-efficient vehicle options of the near future. The Education Program will educate the public and create a multi-tiered approach to engage students and showcase the 21st-century skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to succeed in work and life, including creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.
