1999 Ssang Yong W-Coupe

Korean automakers unveiled the Ssang Yong W-coupe concept vehicle at the 1997 Seoul International Motor Show. The W-coupe was a 4-cylinder, 2.3 turbo that had the appearance of a Japanese 4X4.

Based on the old Mercedes E-class platform and powered by a Mercedes' 3-liter straight-six engine, the Ssang Yong W-Coupe was a sports car concept that was based on the same platform as the Mercedes S-class.

The Ssang Yong-W was designed by Ken Greenley, the Englishman who is also responsible for styling Ssang Yong's Musso and Stampede off-roaders. Designed to show the possibilities of the platform, the W-coupe was designed by Greenley to possibly be put into production.

The Ssang Yong-W featured an engine that was 2297 ccm, with two seats, and a transmission that was manual 5-speed. The V6 engine was located in the front and had a max power of 13 kW at 200 revs per minute, and 234.6 ft. lbs. The top speed of the Ssang Yong-W was 167.8 miles per hour, and could achieve 0 to 60 miles in 6.7 seconds. The W-coupe weighed in at 2,855.0 pounds.
