Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Named a Finalist for Motorsport Event of the Year by International Historic Motoring Awards

MONTEREY, Calif., October 24, 2016 — For the fourth consecutive year, a panel of expert judges for the International Historic Motoring Awards has named the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion a finalist for the Motorsport Event of the Year. Last year, the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) was awarded the top honor for Porsche Rennsport Reunion V that was held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

'To again have the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion be named a finalist with six other internationally-respected historic racing events is a humbling honor,' said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which hosts and produces the event each year since 2010. 'It is also a testament to the 500-plus participants who share their prized race cars with fans, and the enthusiastic support from Monterey County businesses and residents of the largest event of Monterey Classic Car Week.'

Launched in 2011, the International Historic Motoring Awards recognizes and celebrates the skills and achievements of the worldwide historic motoring industry. The event comprises 14 award categories ranging from Museum of the Year to Motorsport Event and Personal Achievement. The announcement will be made at a black-tie gala at The Guildhall in London on Nov. 17.

The 2016 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion celebrated the centenary of BMW, which was the largest celebration of the marque outside of Munich, and was attended by a record 70,525 spectators over the four days. SCRAMP's underpinning belief is that a car's beauty, sounds and history do not diminish with age, and are to be raced as they originally were for the enjoyment of all generations. This is what distinguishes the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion from other vintage racing events.
