2002 GMC YUKON, YUKON XL FEATURE POWERTRAIN ENHANCEMENTS
GMC's 2002 Yukon and Yukon XL provide surprising agility in full-size SÚVs that stand out for their extraordinary roominess, cargo-hauling capability and safety. Yukon XL 3/4-ton models, powered by the segment's highest output engines, provide the ultimate muscle for heavy work or recreational duties. Their standard Vortec 6000 and optional Vortec 8100 V8s now mate to more durable transmissions, including a new 4L85-E heavy-duty version of the4L80-E electronic four-speed automatic, which also provides additional torque capacity for off-line acceleration and pulling power.Powertrain upgrades
Yukon XL 3/4-ton models provide unparalleled power with their optional Vortec 8100 V8 (L18). Its 340 hp at 4200 rpm and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm) of torque at 3200 rpm out-muscles even the top competitor's V10. The Vortec 8100 now mates to a new, heavier-duty 4L85-E version of the previously standard 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com) The 4L85-E provides higher durability and handles more torque for even better off-line acceleration and launch capability. It also handles more torque in reverse gear. The 4L85-E can handle 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of maximum engine torque, 20 lb-ft more than the 4L80-E. Design enhancements include:A more robust overdrive roller clutch, featuring larger diameter rollers and a 'shuttle car' design; it allows high-speed 4-2 downshifts without any shift sequencing delays and is designed with error-proof assembly features
A more durable turbine shaft; the shaft is induction-hardened using an electrical heat-treating process and then shot-peened to relieve internal stresses in the metal
Brazed blades inside the torque converter; they allow the torque converter to accept and transfer higher torque levels and increase durability
More pinion gears (five total), allowing the gearset to handle higher loads
In other respects, the 4L85-E has the same gear ratios and design features as the 4L80-E. That means operators get the benefit of GM's Tow/Haul mode, for example, which reduces shift busyness and wear when pulling a heavy trailer. It also means they get the proven dependability and smoothness inherent in the 4L80-E's basic design. The 4L80-E, which continues to be standard with the Vortec 6000 V8 (LQ4) in Yukon XL 3/4-ton models, also provides increased durability by adopting the more robust overdrive roller clutch and stronger turbine shaft used in the 4L85-E. The 4L80-E handles 440 lb-ft (597 Nm) of maximum engine torque capacity. The transmission is so strong, smooth and dependable that it's even used in such applications as medium-duty trucks, motorhomes and some of the world's most expensive luxury cars. As the standard engine in Yukon XL 3/4-ton models, the Vortec 6000 delivers 320 hp at 5000 rpm and 360 lb-ft (488 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm – more than any of the segment's competing V8s.The Vortec 5300 V8 (LM7), standard on Yukon XL half-ton models and optional on the regular Yukon, now provides ultra low emissions vehicle (ÚLEV) capability for California. For states without special low emissions requirements, the Vortec 5300 also provides flexible fuel capability that allows the trucks to run on varying blends of ethanol and gasoline – from 100 percent gasoline up to a maximum 85 percent ethanol (E85). Flex-fuel capability is available at no charge.Emissions efficiency has been improved with the use of a new Denso oxygen sensor in the LEV version of the Vortec 4800, standard in Yukon models. All full-size SÚV engines, including the Vortec 4800, Vortec 5300, Vortec 6000 and Vortec 8100, feature a more efficient starter that draws less current and a more durable steering gear housing.Improved safety
An anchorage system called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) provides more accessible attachment for rear child seats. Its seat anchors, combined with the top tether anchors, allow installation of LATCH-compatible child seats without using the seatbelt.
Yukon and Yukon XL also excel in seating comfort by providing highly flexible passenger and cargo-carrying configurations. Each can accommodate up to nine vehicle occupants. Yukon offers an optional 50/50 split-bench folding third row seat. Yukon XL offers the choice of four-place bucket seating. Seats can easily be removed or stored on board. With its rear seats removed, Yukon XL provides room enough to carry 4 x 8-foot sheets of plywood, with the door closed.Source - GMC

2002 GMC YUKON DENALI AND YUKON XL DENALI SET THE STANDARD FOR PREMIUM FULL-SIZE SUVS
With their high level of refinement, performance and control, GMC's 2002 Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali continue to set the standard for premium full-size SÚVs.Brand new for 2001, this year's models have been upgraded with a more efficient starter that draws less current, a more durable steering gear housing and a new anchorage system for rear child seats. The system, called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) provides more accessible attachment for rear child seats. It also allows installation of LATCH-compatible child seats without requiring a seat belt.
Power and performance
Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali provide quick, responsive handling and performance and enough power for serious work assignments with their standard Vortec 6000 V8, the segment's highest displacement engine. It couples to a 4L65-E heavy-duty electronic four-speed automatic transmission whose 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear in conjunction with a 3.73 axle ratio contribute to quick responsiveness and quiet, efficient highway cruising. The Vortec 6000 provides 90 percent of its peak torque over a long 1600 to 5200 rpm range for maximum towing or carrying.
The refined interior features plush, tone-on-tone leather trimmed seats, 10-way power controlled front bucket seats and heated front and second-row cushions, a large multifunctional extended floor console with driver information center which provides fingertip control for many vehicle functions, Black Cherry wood trim, and an 11-speaker Bose Acoustimass audio system.
A standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and AutoRide suspension optimize control and ride smoothness under any road or load conditions. The advanced viscous coupling technology in the AWD system automatically and continuously transfers torque in a smooth, imperceptible manner to maintain optimum front-to-rear torque split and best balance of handling characteristics under all operating conditions. AutoRide uses a real-time damping system to select the best damping for different road conditions. A standard fully automatic rear air leveling system, working in conjunction with coil springs, also maintains the vehicles' trim height, regardless of how much weight they carry.
In addition to GM's factory-installed OnStar communications system, Denali provides a year's worth of next-generation OnStar safety and security package services at no charge. The package includes automatic emergency assistance when air bags deploy and remote unlocking and diagnostics services. Optional OnStar services include hands-free calling and e-mail, as well as the concierge services.
Yukon Denali is available as a single eight-passenger model and the Yukon XL Denali with a choice of seven or eight-passenger seating.Source - GMC
