2002 Cadillac Escalade Debuts All-New, Luxurious Interior Design
INNOVATIVE INTERIOR FEATURES
Inside, the 2002 Escalade offers comfort, convenience, luxury and safety. Interior highlights include an all-new, upscale instrument panel with integrated floor console, heated Soft Nuance leather seats with new sew styles and colors; a premium 11-speaker Bose® Acoustimass® audio system and in-dash, single-point loading six-disc CD changer, a sophisticated new Driver Information Center and a light weight third-row seat.
ALL-NEW INSTRUMENT PANEL
Gauges Trimmed in Aluminum Halos
The all-new instrument panel (IP) is one of the Escalade's most notable highlights. Trimmed in aluminum halos, it features a 120-mph speedometer and analog gauges, including an odometer with trip, engine hour meter, tachometer, fuel, voltmeter, oil pressure and engine temperature. A new transmission temperature gauge also allows drivers to monitor transmission fluid temperature for the first time. Interior appointments are all color-keyed for a harmonious appearance.
New instrument pointers and white cluster backlighting are useful and attractive. The IP's inner cluster is coated in a silver soft touch paint finish, and the cluster bezel is accented with rich Zebrano wood. The IP's driver message center monitors and reports the status of up to 19 vehicle functions. The standard OnStar three-button system is housed in the IP for easy access.
The steering wheel is trimmed with wood and has a soft, leather wrapped shift lever with a chrome ring tip. The center of the steering wheel displays Cadillac's updated wreath and crest emblem. The steering wheel also has a duplicate set of audio controls so drivers need not avert their eyes from the road to control the sound system.
NEW EXTENDED FLOOR CONSOLE
Along with its upscale look, the all-new interior offers utility as well. A spacious, lockable extended floor console stores personal items, and flows into the instrument panel.
The console's top is extended to better hold items placed on its surface, and is covered in leather. The inner portion of the console's bezel has a Zebrano wood look, and its perimeter is trimmed with silver soft touch paint. The interior compartment is deep and lights up when the console is opened. It has a convenient coin holder on the side and slots for storing up to six CDs or cassettes at the bottom. The console also features a new analog clock.
DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER
The top of the console incorporates a state-of-the-art Driver Information Center (DIC), which has been improved to perform the following Escalade-exclusive tasks:
Recall the driver and/or passenger's seat position at the touch of the remote keyless entry unlock button or when the key is inserted in the ignition
Execute an automatic Exit Recall of the seat when the key is removed from the ignition
Automatically tilt the driver and/or passenger side exterior mirrors when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse and restore them to a normal position when the vehicle is shifted out of Reverse
The DIC has numerous other capabilities, including the ability to track fuel economy, personalize the automatic lighting, alarm and door locking systems.
CONVENIENT CONSOLE FEATURES
The console also has two large cupholders, two auxiliary power points and an ashtray, all neatly hidden below damped, spring-loaded lids, as well as separate, covered storage for maps, credit cards or a cell phone. In the second-row of the vehicle, the rear of the console has two auxiliary power points, rear seat audio controls, separate right and left side controls for second-row heated seat cushions, another set of cupholders and courtesy lights for rear passengers.
An overhead, front mini console provides reading lamps and controls for the rear air conditioning and Homelink®, which allows vehicle owners to program up to three different signals for items, such as the garage door opener, house lights or an electric gate. It also houses controls for the optional sunroof.
BEST-IN-CLASS BOSE® ACOUSTIMASS ® AUDIO SYSTEM
Escalade's premium entertainment package features an impressive 11-speaker Bose® Acoustimass® Audio System, which has been acoustically tailored and equalized for the vehicle's interior architecture.
A seven-channel power module, which includes a two-state modulation amplifier, drives the speakers, and is located in the rear quarter panel. The speaker system includes:
Two tweeters, relocated to the right and left front A-pillar areas
Two extended-range speakers on either side of the front console, which help project the audio image to the center of the vehicle
Two 6.5-inch wide-range speakers (woofers) in the front door panels
Two 5.25-inch speakers in the rear door panels
Two smaller high-output speakers mounted in the D-pillars
A subwoofer in the left rear quarter panel
The Bose® patented Acoustimass® speaker technology ensures deep, clean bass and a wide, dynamic range. The 11-speaker package provides highly balanced, lifelike sound for all listeners. The system generates 250 watts RMS of power output and can produce up to 110 dB SPL with no audible distortion – far exceeding the 103 to 104 dB SPL considered maximum concert level.
The Bose® package is combined with an AM/FM stereo/CD/cassette player with seek-scan, speed-compensated volume and a memory that 'remembers' the tone control settings for each radio station and recalls them when the station is selected.
SIX - DISC CD CHANGER
Six-Discs Loaded Through a Single Slot on the Dash
A new remote in-dash six-disc changer allows occupants to load or eject CDs independently of the others through a single slot on the instrument panel. It has a time-saving 'load-all' or 'eject-all' feature. In addition, it provides single-disc random play in which it randomly selects tracks from one disc, or full random play, in which it skips from one disc to the next, randomly playing a tune from each.
DIVERSITY ANTENNA
For top-notch radio reception, Escalade has a new, sophisticated Diversity Antenna System. It uses an FM antenna located on the driver's rear quarter window and an AM/FM antenna on the passenger's side rear quarter glass. The two glass antennas feed a diversity module, located in the rear quarter panel, which then feeds the radio with an optimized signal. Based on output from a receiver in the radio, the diversity module tunes, combines and changes the phase of the antennas to improve the signal with a uniform reception pattern.
MORE INTERIOR ROOM
The Escalade's interior offers more head room, hip room and second- and third-row leg room than before, and it does so with a decrease in length and height, and only a slight increase in width.
EXCEPTIONAL SEATING COMFORT
Seating comfort continues to be an Escalade specialty with the 2002 model. The seats are uniquely soft and supportive, and feature Soft Nuance leather surfaces with Cadillac-specific sew patterns.
The standard front bucket seats are equipped with six-way power seat adjusters for the driver and passenger, power seatback recliners, power-adjustable side bolsters, heated seat backs and cushions, a seat back storage pocket, power lumbar adjusters, fold-down inboard armrests, manual articulating four-position head restraints, a two-position driver's seat memory, and programmable exit feature.
The convenient 60/40 split-folding second row seat has a folding center armrest with storage tray, dual cupholders, and vertically adjustable head restraints on the outboard seats. Both second row seats can be folded flat into the floor, creating additional storage space. When folding the second row, headrests articulate completely out of the way without being removed. Second row seats will again feature heated cushions.
Light-Weight Removable Third-Row Standard
The remarkably flexible standard 50/50 split-bench, third-row seat allows the seat backs to be folded or the seats to be flipped forward and stowed or entirely removed (each seat weighs approximately 40 pounds).
Cadillac's new wreath and crest emblem is embroidered in the first and second-row seat headrests.
INTERIOR COLOR SELECTIONS
Careful thought was given to the interior color scheme. In 2002, the Escalade is available in two interior colors: Shale or Pewter. The interior combines solid and perforated leather for a varied look.
