The Brawner/McGee is the product of Clint Brawner and Jim McGee. Scorpion was constructed at the 'Brawner Works' in Phoenix, AZ. As a mechanic/constructor Brawner had just won his third USAC Championship in 1971 and tied with George Bignotti for most wins by a mechanic/constructor. From 1965 through 1969, Mario Andretti had 27 wins in Brawner cars. The engine builder was Joe Boghosian and the engine is a 159 cubic-inch 4-Cam Ford. This car ran at Indianapolis in 1970 as the 'Quick Kick Special.' In 1971, Jim Gilmore, a Michigan television station/car dealership owner, sponsored this car as the 'Gilmore Broadcasting' (car #64) with Art Pollard qualifying at 169.75 mph and starting in the 31st position. The car placed 26th due to valve problems.
