SCÉNIC II: THE INTELLIGENCE OF AN MPV, THE DRIVING PLEASURE OF A SALOON
Scénic II embodies a modern and expressive style with its one-box design and 'hatchback-style' rear treatment, contained within an overall length of just 4.25 metres. The vehicle has a wide track, long wheelbase and reduced overhangs. The cabin interior is equipped with a typical MPV dashboard featuring a centrally-mounted instrument panel. Scénic II continues the principle of the 'à la carte' car, allowing the customer to combine an overall colour and trim scheme (Authentique, Expression, Dynamique or Privilège) with an equipment level (Pack, Confort or Luxe) and a powertrain.
Scénic II achieves maximum interior space. It gains 26mm of headroom in the front and 23mm of elbowroom, and offers 226 mm of rear seat knee room. With a windscreen area of 1.40 sq. metres, the car provides a remarkable panoramic view. The cabin interior provides a high level of interior brightness thanks to a panoramic sunroof with an area of 1.61 sq. metres – unique in the segment. Scénic II naturally retains all the versatility offered on Scénic and adds new functions: for the Confort and Luxe equipment levels, the gearchange and automatic parking brake are mounted in the dashboard. The front passenger seat can now be folded to form a flat, hard-surfaced table. The three back seats, when set into their vertical stowage position, latch themselves and maintain the position automatically. Scénic II is also equipped with an opening rear window.
The stowage spaces of Scénic II provide a total capacity of 91 litres. This includes a 15-litre sliding centre stowage feature, which can be electrically unlatched. The refrigerated glovebox is increased in size to 17 litres. The four drawers beneath the seats as well as four additional compartments, are easily accessible thanks to the flat floorpan. Depending on the position of the back seats, the volume of the luggage space can vary from 430 to 480 litres (VDA). Scénic II introduces to its segment three new technical innovations: bi-xenon headlamps, the automatic parking brake and the fuel filler flap with built-in cap. Scénic II is also equipped with parking sensors and offers two navigation systems: Carminat Guidance and Carminat Advanced Navigation System.
Scénic II provides a wide array of powertrains. The petrol engine range comprises the 98bhp 1.4 16V, the 115bhp 1.6 16V and the 136bhp 2.0 16V, while the diesel range includes the 80bhp 1.5 dCi, the 100bhp 1.5 dCi and the 120bhp 1.9 dCi, with maximum torque increased to 300 Nm. The range of five-speed and six-speed manual gearboxes and flick-shift proactive automatic transmission has been taken from Mégane II with changes in gearing to adapt to the needs of Scénic II. Scénic II also has adopted Mégane II's front and rear suspension to achieve well-controlled dynamic comfort. The use of large-diameter anti-roll bars and wide tracks ensure exemplary control of roll angles.
Scénic II is equipped with new-generation ESP with understeer control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and Pax run-flat tyres system, ABS and Emergency Brake Assist. It is also fitted with the restraint mechanisms of the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection, with three-point safety belts for all seats, and includes many strengthened zones with programmed deformation. The Scénic II safety system includes up to six airbags including two adaptive frontal bags.
With a 7-seater version, longer by 23cm, Renault will in a few months' time become the only manufacturer to offer two versions, five-seat and seven-seat, in the C-segment MPV class. This additional version will include two seats forming a third row, individually folding flat into the floor. The three independent seats in the second row enable access to the third row without all the second-row occupants having to leave the vehicle.
