The Super Aguri SA05 was designed by Mark Preston and Mike Coughlan and driven during the 2006 Formula one season by Takuma Sato, Frank Montagny and Sakon Yamamoto. It was a development of the Arrows A23 designed in 2002 by Mike Coughlan. The A23 chassis was used as the base because the team was disallowed from using Honda's 2005 F1 car.

The team was led by former Formula One driver Aguri Suzuki and was funded by Honda and used Honda engines. The gearbox was an Arrows 7-speed unit.

During the season, the team failed to score any points. 2006 was a learning year for the newly formed team and one where many of the growing pains were worked out and resolved.
