March 1, 2011 – Ford's small cars will stand out even more from the crowd with some new eye-catching styling schemes. The new Metal Ka is part of Ford's Individual styling programme, created to fit perfectly with the car's eye-catching exterior design.
The Metal Ka is part of the collection of options from the Ford Individual styling programme – an initiative that covers Ford's small, medium and large and luxury cars. Sitting alongside the established Ka models within the Ford Individual programme the Metal Ka replaces the Tattoo version which was one of a trio of Individual Ka options first revealed when the new Ka was launched in 2008.
Martin Smith, Executive Design Director, Ford of Europe said, 'Typical Ka owners enjoy making bold, personal statements through their choice of vehicle and the new Metal Ka option joins the colourful customisation ideas already available to Ka customers through the Individual programme. The Tattoo version was always the fashion option – and just like high-end and high street fashion we need to continue moving forward and showcase the latest trends and design ideas.'
With its dark styling the new Metal Ka is a stark contrast to the highly colourful Grand Prix and Digital Ka options within Ford's Individual personalisation programme. Using the highest specification Titanium model as a basis the Metal Ka combines dark, glossy and metallic elements to give customers an expressive and contemporary package that includes exterior and interior treatments. Subtlety in the styling was always a target.
'Compared with the Digital and Grand Prix Individual Ka models the Metal Ka is a lot more subdued. We have picked up on a trend for solid, dark colours set off by high contrast details. Shiny ring elements have been incorporated within the interior while the exterior has lots of high-gloss finishes and chrome elements,' said Martin Smith.
The interior styling package includes grommets in silver finishes. Round air vent surrounds in a chrome finish are features of the instrument panel. Most noticeably the rings have also been incorporated into the seat fabric itself, to create a dramatic and eye-catching feature. Very fine black and silver thread in the seat fabric enhance further the metallic feel.
High gloss black is used on the centre console and inner door handles, while the gear shifter and the handbrake lever are finished with a combination of black leather, high gloss black and chrome.
'With Metal Ka we're looking at fashion, definitely, but also a little bit of luxury. We think the high gloss black is luxurious. You often see it in large and luxury segment cars but combined with the chrome this is something that is really fun.' Said Martin Smith
