In 1993, the base Cabriolet had a price of $18,660 and just 3,846 examples were sold. Power was from an overhead-cam four-cylinder engine displacing 109 cubic-inches and offering 94 horsepower. A five-speed manual was standard with a four-speed automatic available.

For 1993, Volkswagen celebrated 37 years of offering a convertible by offering a Collector's Edition. Two years prior, in 1991, they had celebrated 35 years of open motoring with the 'Etienne Aigner' designer edition and an optional power top.

The base models received leatherette upholstery option. Also, the audio systems were upgraded and a CD player joined the option list.
