The 1997 GMC Suburban received a passenger-side airbag and a power lock switch in the cargo compartment. The Suburbans had power steering and the 4WD models had a tighter turning circle. Two new colors were available. Power was provided by a 5.7 liter V8 engine offering 255 horsepower. The engine was mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox. The SLE and SLT trim now included rear heat, air conditioning, and a remote keyless entry. The SLT trim added a combination CD and cassette player stereo system.
