Karl Abarth, who was later known as Carlo Abarth, was born in Austria. During the 1950s, he created a small manufacturing empire in Italy, building exhaust systems and parts for Fiats and other European makes. The Scorpio symbol was adopted by Carlo for his company from his birth sign. Carlo later evolved into a car manufacturer using body shells (and sometimes partly completed cars) from Fiat. The Fiat/Abarth arrangement worked well for both concerns and resulted in many class victories.
After producing special-bodied Fiat-based coupes and sedans for many years, Abarth introduced the 595 and 695 from the rear-engine Fiat 500. Featuring mechanical upgrades from Abarth, these cars had top speeds that exceeded 90 mph.
This particular example is powered by a 2-cylinder engine that displaces 695cc and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. It has the Abarth performance package, a ragtop with an iconic logo, Abarth floor mats, a blue exterior, and a black interior.
