The Jeep Wagoneer came out in 1963 and it combined the rugged attributes of a truck with the luxury and comfort of a sedan. This ground breaking vehicle was so successful that it survived until 1991.
The Wagoneer was given a body-on-frame design with solid axles and leaf springs all around. Power was sent to all four wheels via a viscous coupling center differentials allowing rear-wheel drive only operation to boost fuel economy. Based on the Jeep SJ platform, the Wagoneer was given an advanced overhead cam straight-six engine. Features included an independent front suspension, power steering and an automatic transmission.
During its 28-year plus production lifespan, the 4WD Wagoneer received only minor mechanical changes.
The Wagoneer was a successor to the Willys Jeep Station Wagon that had been built since the end of World War II.
This particular Jeep Grand Wagoneer was purchased from George 'Larry' Garvin in 1996 by a lady who had been searching for a Grand Wagoneer. Mr. Gavin had acquired it from its original owner.
In 1996 its odometer showed 109,000 miles and when it was sold by Mr. Gavin it had just over 133,000 miles. It has gained just 4,000 miles since 2005.
This Jeep is powered by a 360 cubic-inch overhead vale V8 engine fitted with a single 2-Barrel Motorcraft carburetor. It has a 3-speed automatic transmission with front vented disc brakes and rear drum hydraulic brakes with Vacuum power assist.
