Convertible Sedan by Springfield

The Duryeas were considered the founders of the American automobile in 1895. In 1902 Frank Duryea partnered with the JC Stevens Gun Company in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. They produced high-quality automobiles until 1915, when Stevens got a large gun order from England at the outbreak of World War I. The automobile division closed down, sold its assets, and had money left over.

This huge car is fitted with a custom body by Springfield and is the only such body known to exist. The car rides on a 138-inch wheelbase, weighs 5,000 pounds, and has 37-inch wheels, and a 575 cubic-inch motor. With the top up, it is 7 and 1/2 feet tall. Since 1989 the car has been driven 70,000 miles in the United States and abroad. It was driven to the 2018 Amelia Island Concours; after the event, it did a week's tour and was driven back to Fayetteville, Georgia. In June 2018, it will be driven on a 2,400-mile tour in the Pacific Northwest.
