The Mercedes G-glass was originally developed for military use. It was built with help from Steyr-Daimler-Puch and produced in Gaz, Austria. A short time later, in 1979, a civilian version was made available. Although its original application had been rugged, off-road, and utilitarian vehicle, the civilian version was moved away from its agrarian roots and upmarket. The United States had to wait until 2002 until they received its own G.

This particular Mercedes-Benz G250D has been given a comprehensive, body-off restoration. It work blended the vintage design with modern technology creating a unique and one-off vehicle. The body was stripped to bare metal and media blasted prior to painting in Sandstorm Yellow. Inside, the seats are covered in hand- crafted, two-tone vegan leather. There is a custom-built roll-bar and an optional soft top. The engine is a 2.5-liter, inline 5-cylinder diesel engine fitted with Bosch fuel injection and producing 83 horsepower. There is a five-speed manual transmission, front disc brakes, and rear drums. There are raptor suspension components, steel wheels, and new Cooper Discoverer SST Pro tires. Modern touches include LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled Pioneer sound system.
