1997 Daewoo Joyster

Introduced in 1997 the Daewoo Joyster was produced by the Korean firm Daewoo. Unfortunately the company had a problem of image, it was never one of marketing success based on hand-me-downs from oilier makers.

In 1994 Daewoo improved its design credential by acquiring the IAD design offices in Worthin, Britain and by founding a design center in Bavaria. The first design to be produced was the 1996 Mya concept.

In 1997 Daewoo stepped up its concept-car versions with the launch of a whole vault of dream cars. These produced a glimpse of enticing future possibilities. Most exciting of all Daewoo's dream cars was the Joyster, a highly character and compact 13 foot long two-seater roaster. The Joyster featured vertically stacked lights front and rear along with a very distinctive front grille in which the traditional Daewoo fan that was flanked by curious panels drilled with holes of different sizes. The Joyster was reminiscent of the Ghia.

With an engine size of 91.35 cubic inches, it was front wheel drive with automatic transmission. The engine was located in the front and had a displacement rate of 1497 ccm and a maximum power of 6 kW or 89 HP at 4800 Revs per minute. The Joyster weighed 1,984.2 pounds and had an overall length of 159.4 inches.
