BUICK REGAL: PERFORMANCE IN A FAMILY PACKAGE
Regal, Buick's sporty midsize car that features both performance and luxury, has a number of updates for 2003. And the supercharged power in Regal's GS model continues to put it among the horsepower leaders in its class.
New features include additional interior trim padding to improve head-impact protection, and two new exterior colors: Cardinal Red Metallic and Augusta Green Metallic.
Relationship with Joseph Abboud continues
For the fourth year, Regal offers special models with color and trim touches by renowned fashion designer Joseph Abboud - available in both LS and GS models.
Abboud's influence is most apparent in Regal's dramatic leather interior. Special club-style front bucket seats with Rich Chestnut leather seating areas are reminiscent of the LaCrosse, Buick's popular 2000 concept car. The Abboud Regal also includes a leather-wrapped two-tone steering wheel and a Rich Chestnut leather shifter boot.
Abboud signature emblems adorn the instrument panel, carpet savers, headrest and taillamps. Special treatment sets off the grille-mounted Buick tri-shield and designs on the 16-inch aluminum wheels.
'With Regal, we're providing families with luxury and performance in a spacious, premium automobile,' said Mark Hines, Regal marketing director.
Although the Regal's good looks and luxury features may be what customers notice first, its power is what tends to impress them the most.
Smooth V6 power
For 2003, Regal is again available in LS and GS models, the latter equipped with a supercharged 3800 Series II V6 engine providing 240 hp at 5200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. The LS engine is the naturally aspirated 3800 Series II V6, providing 200 hp at 5200 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Estimated fuel economy is 19 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway for the LS and 18/28 for the supercharged GS.
Standard safety and convenience features
For 2003, OnStar, GM's 24-hour on-demand driver assistance and navigation system, is available on Regal GS and LS models and comes with one year of safety and security service. OnStar is the nation's leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services using the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network and wireless technology. OnStar services include automatic notification of air bag deployment, stolen vehicle location, remote door unlock, emergency services dispatch, roadside assistance, remote diagnostics, route support, convenience services and OnStar Concierge. OnStar Personal Calling allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls through a nationwide network in cooperation with Verizon Wireless. Virtual Advisor gives subscribers access to personalized information in a hands-free, voice-activated manner with no screens or displays.
In addition, the Regal features new interior trim on the pillars and roof rails, backed with energy-absorbing foam for additional head-impact protection that exceeds new federal requirements.
All Regals feature a system that ensures proper installation of child restraint seats. The system, called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren), has six metal hooks designed to help adults easily and safely attach child safety seats.
Regal provides an array of standard features including dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, perimeter lighting, reclining driver and front-passenger seats, fog lamps and dual remote outside rearview mirrors (power adjustable).
Regal models are also equipped with Buick's Convenience Plus package of features including delayed entry and exit lighting, theater dimming, flash-to-pass control, battery rundown protection, lockout protection, delayed locking, auxiliary power outlet, retained accessory power, a theft-deterrent system and daytime running lamps. Cruise control and power windows and door locks are also standard.
In addition to the supercharged engine, GS models include leather-trimmed seats with a driver's-side air bag, full-range (brake and engine) traction control, 16-inch aluminum wheels and a driver information center with oil-life monitor, fluid level warnings and fuel/engine information, including supercharger boost level.
The GS also is equipped with Gran Touring suspension, including 16-inch all-season touring tires and aluminum or optional chrome-plated wheels.
