Formula Vee race cars were purpose-built single-seat formula cars that raced in an SCCA class that was started in the mid-1960s. The running gear is restricted and based on a 1964-1967 Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Though primarily a Sports Car Club of America racing class, other organizations have adopted the Formula Vee as a class.
The series was established to be an open-wheel, single-seater junior motor racing formula that was aimed at keeping costs low. Over the years, the rules have evolved to improve performance, lower cost, or allow the replacement of discontinued parts.
