1953 Atlas-Allied 186

1953 Atlas-Allied 186 1953 Atlas-Allied 186 1953 Atlas-Allied 186 This Multiplex/Allied was built by Multiplex Mfg. of Berwick, PA. Multiplex Mfg. built a handful of cars in 1912 and 1913.

The '186' was designed by former dirt track driver/designer Fritz Bingaman. It was powered by a 2700cc Willy's six-cylinder engine. This is the coupe version of the planned production model that was one of only three produced. The first prototype sported an aluminum and steel body with a 1996cc Willy's four-cylinder engine.

This car has a tubular truss-type chassis, independent front suspension by transverse spring and wishbone, semi-elliptic rear springs, 'monochromatic' shock absorbers, Wagner-Lockheed hydraulic brakes, Ross steering, and Borg Warner transmission. It rides on a 94-inch wheelbase, and the curb weight is only 1,700 pounds. It has a top speed of 132 mph and is capable of 0-60 mph in 10.9 seconds.

The body of this car is an Allied/Atlas fiberglass mold purchased in California in 1952. It is a copy of the famed Cisitalia. It is hand-laid fiberglass over a wooden frame.

The car is still owned by Multiplex Mfg. Co. and also resides with the metal-bodied prototype.
