The Chrysler Corporation was founded on June 6, 1925, by Walter Chrysler from the remains of the Maxwell Motor Company. Mr. Chrysler was a man of means, earned from his buyout from Buick and fees for turning around the Willys Corporation. Mr. Chrysler had arrived at the Maxwell-Chalmers company in the early 1920s and attempted to resolve the company's troubled operations. Near the close of 1923, production of the Chalmers automobile had ceased and in January 1924, Walter Chrysler introduced the Chrysler automobile. The six-cylinder Chrysler model B formed the basis for what became the Chrysler Corporation. It was designed by an engineering team of Fred Zeder, Owen Skelton, and Carl Breer and backed by Chrysler and his Wall Street partners.

View info and historyThe Chrysler six had a high compression cylinder head helping to deliver 68 horsepower at 3,000 RPM. The engine was installed in a conventional C-section steel frame, the suspension comprised of live axles and semi-elliptical leaf springs, and the braking was by four-wheel hydraulic drums. The Chrysler Corporation avoided the mistakes made by Henry Leland when starting Lincoln, who had used quality materials and solid engineering but with stodgy coachwork. Instead, the Chrysler cars received attractive, well-proportioned, and sleek bodies which helped them achieve success from their inception. In 1926, production quickly ramped up and over 72,000 G-70 models were built that year in addition to 81,000 of the Maxwell-based four-cylinder F-58 and 9,100 of the new long-wheelbase E-80 six.The G-70 came equipped with an L-head six-cylinder engine with a 219 cubic-inch displacement, a single carburetor, and developed 68 horsepower at 3,000 RPM. It was backed by a three-speed sliding gear transmission and four-wheel external contracting hydraulic drum brakes provided the stopping power. The 1926 Chrysler Model G-70 was similar to the previous year's style, but with doors that were slightly raised off the body sills. The headlamp designs were slightly altered and the early examples had drum headlamps with hooded rings. The later 1926 models used a bullet-shaped headlamp.
