1965 Ford Falcon

Ford advertised its 1965 model lineup as the 'Newest since 1949,' offering buyer's a vast array of models, body styles, engine options, and configurations. The full-size models were fitted with rear coil springs for the first time, and the 'Silent Flow' ventilation system was standard on all four-door hardtops. The compact Falcon rested on a 109.5-inch wheelbase and had an overall length of 181.6 inches (the station wagons were slightly larger at 190-inches), similar to the Mustang which had a 108-inch wheelbase and 181.6-inch length. The second-generation Falcon had been launched in 1963 and introduced more squared-off styling. A Sprint Package was added for the 1964 year which gave the Falcon the Fairlane's 260 V8, tuned suspension, and louder exhaust note. 1964 was also the year the Mustang was introduced, and since the Mustang could be ordered with all the same options that the Sprint had for only a small amount more, the Sprint never became popular and was discontinued after 1965.

The base trim level of the 1965 Ford Falcon came equipped with two horns, two sun visors, armrests on the front doors only, and chrome on the windshield. They had rear window moldings and fitted with an overhead valve 170 CID six-cylinder engine offering just over 100 horsepower. An optional 200 CID six was available, along with several V8 options. When equipped with the six-cylinder engine, the cars received four-lug hubs and 13-inch steel wheels. The V-8 options cars had five-lug wheels. The Falcons were given the same body shell as the 1964 model but were updated with several trim changes giving the 1965 models its own appearance. A new Falcon emblem with black Falcon letters could be found attached to the front fenders, just behind the wheel openings.

The Falcon was available in several body styles including station wagons and 2- and 4-door sedans. The Futura Series, the top Falcon trim level for 1965, added several additional body styles to the list, including a 2-door hardtop, 2-door Sport Coupe, and convertibles.
