Share on:

Plymouth used the 'Suddenly it's 1960' theme to promote its 1957 models. Strong styling and futuristic performance helped revitalize sales, catapulting Plymouth back into third in automotive industry sales. The Fury was re-introduced in January as a mid-year high-performance model, available as a hardtop coupe, priced at $2,900. Another mid-year addition was the Savoy Sport Sedan four-door hardtop, priced at $2,300.

The Plymouth Fury was equipped with an overhead-valve, 299.6 cubic-inch V8 engine with a Carter four-barrel carburetor delivering 235 horsepower at 4,400 RPM. An optional 3176. CID V8 with two Carter four-barrel carburetors boosted power to 290 horsepower at 5,400 RPM, giving the Fury a zero-to-sixty mph time of 8.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 16.5 seconds.

Standard features on the top-of-the-line Fury included a safety padded dash, padded sun visors, foam seats, dual outside rearview mirrors, directional signals, back-up lights, and a special clock. Engines were backed by a new three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

The Furey had rear fender nameplates and upswept front bumper end extensions. The total number of 1957 Plymouth Fury's produced was 7,438 units.
