1984 Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Eldorado was in production from the early 1950s through 2002, and the 1984 model year was part of the tenth generation of styling, introduced in 1979 and continuing through 1985.

For 1984, Cadillac produced 77,806 Eldorados with 3,300 of those being convertibles, an all-time Eldorado sales record, and accounting for approximately 26 percent of all Cadillacs sold that year. The convertible Biarritz was a new option for 1984 and sold for approximately $31,285. This was the first time since the 1976 Eldorado that Cadillac offered a convertible. Two engines were available, both were V8s. The base unit was a 4.1-liter powerplant that offered 135 horsepower. An optional 5.7 liter provided 105 horsepower and 200 foot pounds of torque. Both engines were mated to a four-speed automatic with overdrive. Disc brakes were in both the front and back.

The power convertible top had a glass back window, and the rear side windows would rise or lower automatically when the top was in use. Only three body colors were offered with the convertible, including Autumn Maple Firemist, Hatteras Blue, and Cotillion White. They had a color-coordinated headliner and a white diamond-grain vinyl top. There were wide bright door and fender accent moldings, Biarritz script nameplates, wire wheel covers, and decklid accent striping.

Changes included a new leather seat trim design, an improved theft prevention system, changes to the suspension system, stereo performance upgrades, and new dashboard bezels. The front grille was now vertically accented and carried Cadillac script nameplates in the lower-left corner, similar to other models in the Cadillac lineup. The grille was flanked by rectangular headlamps resting above the clear park and signal lamps. The bodyside moldings were now the same color as the body.

The standard 4.1-liter engine received a new exhaust system and a new glow-plum system in the diesel V8 option. The diesel was not available in convertibles or cars destined for California.

The Touring Coupe option continued, wearing a unique Eldorado Touring Coupe cloisonne hood surface and sail panel ornaments. They had quarter window channel moldings and wipers, black finished windshield window reveal moldings, and body-colored wheel opening moldings, taillamps bezels, and headlamps. They rode on aluminum alloy wheels and had large ribbed rocker panel moldings. Colors offered on the Touring Coupes included Sable Black or Sonora Saddle Firemist.
