1979 International Scout

1979 International Scout 1979 International Scout There were two prototype Scouts produced by International Harvester's Engineering Department in Fort Wayne, and this example is the second unit produced. The Scout had been in production as a sport utility vehicle when this proposed new model was developed. The Scout prototypes were put through rigorous testing, including many government standard testing and IH durability requirements. It was well received by the press and received positive reviews from potential customers. Unfortunately, International Harvester made the decision to concentrate on medium and heavy trucks and eliminated the Scout from production, which ended the development of this vehicle.

The Scout has a 100-inch wheelbase and is powered by a V-8 engine that develops 162 horsepower. The body is made of a composite material that combines long-strand glass fibers and epoxy resin in a lightweight yet durable structure.
