1965 Watson Wynns Special

1965 Watson Wynns Special 1965 Watson Wynns Special 1965 Watson Wynns Special Don Branson's 1965 'Wynn's Special' #4 was built by A.J. Watson for Bob Wilke of Leader Card Racers. It was designed with help from Larry Shinoda, Leroy Payne, and fabricators Willie Davis and Roger Beck. This car is Watson's first semi-monocoque design and second mid-engine design.

Don, with Jud Phillips as Chief Mechanic, started the 1965 Indy 500 Race 18th and finished 8th, and it was Branson's last Indy finish. The team ran three U.S.A.C. events.

Walt Flynn acquired the car in 1966 and entered the Indy 500 as the 'Enterprise Machine Special' #35 driven by Ralph Liquori. In 1967, #35 was entered in six U.S.A.C. events.

Pat O'Reilly, John Gavan, and Mike DeMulling bought the car in 1968 and entered the 1969 Indy 500 race as the 'Minnesota Serendipity' #51 driven by Dee Jones. After body changes, turbocharging and many U.S.A.C. races as well as in 150 races in Rafaela, Argentina, #51 was retired at the end of the 1972 season.

Changing hands six more times over the next 28 years until 2000, when the current owner bought it and started the restoration. The car was first shown at the 2010 Indy 500 Vintage event.
