1937 Gene Riley Special

1937 Gene Riley Special This unrestored Gene's Riley Special is an excellent example of race cars built from the mid-thirties through the late forties. These dirt track racers were known as flat-tail, rail frame, and big cars. In about 1949, they started being called 'sprint cars.'

This Gene's Riley utilizes a Model B Ford engine, Riley two-port racing head, Winfield carburetors, Bosch magneto, hand air pump pressurized fuel system, pressurized oil system, Model A transmission, Ford V8 front and rear axles, locked rear end, 1935 Ford wheels, Franklin steering, and Essex frame. It is believed to have been built using commercially available K-8 plans in about 1937.

The 1949 AAA dash plaque indicates the owner was Eugene Veinot of Hartford, CT. Ongoing research (being performed by the current owner) includes racing history at East Coast tracks in 1948 and 1949. In 2007, the car was found in a Connecticut basement after 22 years in storage.
