2001 Williams FW23

Williams Formula One car for the 2001 season was the FW23. It was driven by Ralf Schumacher who was in his third year with them, and Juan Pablo Montoya, a Formula 3000 and CART champion who was making his F1 debut. The engine powering the FW23 was a BMW 3-liter V10 that was naturally aspirated and mated to a Williams 7-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox. The car rode on Michelin tires and had a carbon-fiber monocoque structure.

The BMW engines were fast, but they were not as reliable as their rivals, resulting in a finishing rate of less than 50-percent. The team finished in an impressive third place in the Constructors' Championship with 80 points.
