PP MOTORSPORT SIGNS COLBURN AND STRENGTHENS WESTBOURNE PARTNERSHIP FOR 2017 RENAULT UK CLIO CUPJames Colburn (Worthing) will make a full time return to the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2017 – for the PP Motorsport team which has strengthened its partnership with his family's Westbourne Motorsport squad.

Colburn immediately shone when he raced the PP-entered car in 2016's final two events. Prior to that he'd raced full-time in the UK Clio Cup with Westbourne from 2010 to 2014 and was championship runner-up in 2011 after an intense three-way fight against eventual Champion Paul Rivett and Aron Taylor-Smith, now one of the top names in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

The 24-year-old says he will benefit in 2017 from having rapid newcomers James Dorlin and Myles Collins to share data with – they have already been announced as Westbourne drivers but in essence will be team-mates to Colburn who will be run out of the same awning.

'I've very excited to be back full time after getting a taste for it again towards the end of last year and the aim for me has to be going for the title,' commented Colburn.

'I've tested on the new Michelin tyre and really like it. And because it is faster and more durable then people will be able to push to the limit for a lot longer so I think that will make the racing even more interesting.

'It's not going to be easy – the grid is looking exceptionally strong this year with lots of top talent including karting champions and drivers with experience already of the championship such as Max Coates, Josh Price and a few others. Personally I'd pick out James Dorlin as one to watch…'

The PP-entered car – among the most striking on the grid in 2016 – will again carry the names of primary sponsor TerraClean as well as AlloyGator, Renault dealership Pentagon and newly-signed Pure Cloud Solutions.

Team Principal John Creasey enthused: 'We are extremely pleased to be not only renewing but strengthening our technical collaboration with Westbourne after a very good end to last season.

'And of course we are really excited to have James flying the flag for us. His track record in Clios is superb and he can we are sure put the PP car towards the front of the grid.'

Renault Sport's UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: 'It's great to see the PP-Westbourne alliance become even stronger and also the full-time return of James Colburn who adds to the very high calibre of driver announcing their place on the UK Clio Cup grid in 2017.'

The 2017 Renault UK Clio Cup gets under way at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on Sat 1/Sun 2 April with the opening two rounds of its new season. All 18 rounds on the calendar will take place at the BTCC's high profile events meaning not only huge trackside crowds (avg. 38,000+ in 2016) for its teams, drivers and sponsors but also live free-to-air television coverage on ITV4.
