1986 Ralt RT3

Ex-Jack Brabham associate Ron Tauranac sold out his interest in Brabham to Bernie Ecclestone and formed the RALT Company. The RALT company (the name standing for Ron and his brother, Austin Lewis Tauranac) produced single-seater racing cars. They quickly earned a reputation for building simple, safe, durable cars that were manufactured to a very high standard.

Ralt introduced the RT1 in time for the 1975 season. The car was designed to race in Formula 2, Formula 3, and Formula Atlantic. Their success was nearly immediate, winning the Formula 3 Title for Larry Perkins. The following year, the first Formula 2 victory was earned by Freddy Kottulinsky at Nurburgring. Ralt would win the German Formula 3 Championship. More victories and titles would continue to accumulate for the Ralt marque in 1977, including the Italian and the Swedish Formula 3 Championship. In 1978, Ralt drivers won the German Championship, two British Formula 3 championships, Swedish and the European crown. More championships went to Ralt in 1978 and 1980 in F3, Formula Atlantic, and Super Vee.

The RT2 was a Formula Two car introduced in 1979 with three cars being built for the Toleman team. Three more cars were later built for private owners. Two of the original Toleman RT2 teams later ended up in the Can-Am series.

Ralt introduced the RT3 in 1980 and it would continue the companies winning traditions. It was derived from the RT2 and in 1981, Ralt won its first European Formula 2 title. It repeated this accomplishment in 1983 and 1984. It would have tremendous success in other categories, including Formula 3, Formula Atlantic, and Super Vee.

Aryton Senna won the 1983 British Formula 3 Championship in a Ralt RT3.
