1951 Plymouth Suburban

The 1951 Plymouth line featured one engine, a 217 cubic-inch, flathead 6-cylinder quoted at 97 horsepower and an accompanying 3-speed gearbox. The Suburban was a popular choice for taxi cab fleets. Equally the chassis was tough with a boxed perimeter frame and tapered rear leaf springs softened with 'Safety Flow Ride' Oriflow shocks. The Suburban, Plymouth not Chevrolet in 1951, was an all-metal, 2-door station wagon - a strong, utilitarian and reliable offering. With World War II just over and the Korean War in the making there was reason to save critical materials. One reason that there were no extras on the Suburban.
