Improved Engine Noise Isolation
In an effort to reduce unwanted engine noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) from entering the vehicle's cabin, Mitsubishi engineers have made numerous changes. These include:
• Thicker sound insulation in the top of the towel
• Additional insulation to the front fender areas
• A change of dashboard pad material
• The addition of a vibration-absorbing dynamic damper to the engine compartment's structure
Recalibration of the Continuously-Variable Transmission (CVT)
The control system for the continuously-variable transmission (CVT) has been overhauled to offer improved performance and driving dynamics in a variety of areas. These include:
• More linear acceleration
• Better acceleration from a standing start
• Quicker throttle tip-in response
• More natural and direct feeling throttle response
• Quicker downshifts of the simulated gear ratios of the CVT in manual shift mode


Enhanced Interior Trim for the Outlander Sport SE
The SE grade of the 2012 Outlander Sport receives additional chrome accents to the HVAC dials, drive setting dial (2WD/4WD/LOCK) and the tachometer and speedometer gauge surrounds.

The Outlander Sport ES gains a new 16-inch wheel cover design while the Outlander Sport SE gets a fetching new 18-inch alloy wheel design.

The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is offered in two trim levels: a well-equipped front-wheel drive ES model available with either a fuel-efficient five-speed manual transmission or an advanced continuously-variable transmission (CVT), and a more opulently-appointed, CVT-equipped SE version available in either 2WD or with Mitsubishi's exceptional All-Wheel Control (AWC) shift on-the-fly all-wheel drive system.

Efficient and Capable Engine and Transmissions
When it came time to design a fuel-efficient efficient and capable drivetrain for the company's all-new compact crossover vehicle, Mitsubishi engineers elected to use the proven and reliable 4B11 engine that features the company's high-tech MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) continuously-variable valve timing system, along with a sturdy and light weight aluminum block and cylinder head design.

With maximizing the vehicle's fuel efficiency in mind, the Outlander Sport's 4-cylinder engine features smooth-surface camshafts and specialized resin-coated pistons to help reduce friction, as well as an electric - rather than a drag-inducing hydraulic design - power steering system and a higher efficiency alternator. These engine features, along with a best-in-class level of aerodynamic efficiency for the cars attractive exterior design, help the 2012 Outlander Sport to achieve an outstanding EPA-rated 25 mpg city/31 mpg highway (2WD) and 23 city/28 highway (4WD).

The 2012 Outlander Sport ES comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission that is operated in an easy and polished manner but also offers the high-tech continuously-variable transmission (CVT) as an option. The CVT is the sole transmission offered on the distinguished SE trim level.

A fine performer on last year's Outlander Sport model, the CVT has received a recalibration of its operating system for the 2012 model that now offers the driver improved throttle response, quicker acceleration from a standing start and overall more natural feel. Thanks to an energy-absorbing front bumper and specially-designed flexible plastic front fenders, potential injury to pedestrians is reduced as these design elements help to cushion the blow somewhat in the event of a collision.

The Outlander Sport also features Mitsubishi's next-generation Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body design technology. Mitsubishi Motors Reports Record Outlander Sport Sales In March

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported March 2012 sales, including 1,634 sales of the Outlander Sport CÚV. This marks the largest number of Outlander Sport sales in a single month since the model was introduced in October 2010, exceeding the previous high (July 2011) by 4.6 percent.

'We're pleased that Ú.S. consumers are choosing our fuel-efficient and stylish Outlander Sport in record numbers,' said MMNA President & CEO Yoichi Yokozawa. 'We're looking forward with excitement to the beginning of domestic production of the Outlander Sport – now our most popular model – in Normal, Illinois, in July.'

This weekend at the New York International Auto Show, consumers will get their first look at the 2013 Outlander Sport to be manufactured in Normal.

'For several more months, year-versus-year sales statistics will continue to be impacted by our models whose production was completed last summer. However, our future lies in products like the Outlander Sport and the all-electric Mitsubishi i. In the month of March, Ú.S. sales of Mitsubishi i began in an additional 9 states for a total of 13 states. The vehicle is currently available to test drive at participating dealerships in other states, and will be available for sale nationwide by this summer,' Yokozawa added.

March sales details include:
•Outlander Sport sales were up 17.3 percent compared to March 2011 and are up 10.1 percent year to date.
•Lancer Evolution sales increased 46.4 percent compared to the same month a year ago, and are up 38.0 percent for the year.
•Overall Mitsubishi sales for March 2012 were 7,160, which is 5.3 percent below sales of March 2011.
