Charles Nash launched Nash Motors in 1916 after resigning the presidency of General Motors following a dispute with Bill Durant. The Nash quickly became an American favorite. They built a reputation as a manufacturer of solid, medium priced automobiles.

In 1921, the company added a lower-cost four-cylinder model to its lineup. In 1922, Nash became the first American-built automobile to feature rubber engine mounts. Nash, led by the former General Motors president Charles W. Nash, claimed to manufacture more of its own components than any other American automobile manufacturer. Sales passed the 50,000 mark for the first time in 1923. In 1925, the four was succeeded by a smaller six called the 'Special;' all Nash automobiles had overhead valves.

For 1926, the company brought new engines for both the top-line Advanced Six and the mid-priced Special Six. The Special's engine was of the same displacement as the prior year, but it now had seven main bearings, a robust configuration usually reserved for large, expensive cars. For 1927, the engine received a larger bore of 224 cubic-inches, and horsepower rose to 52 BHP. Four-wheel brakes could still be found on Nashs, with the unusual setup of having the front brakes as internal-expanding while the rears were external-contracting. The rationale was that the two types of brakes compensated for one another, resulting in 'absolute safety.'

This Special Six Rumble Seat Coupe was purchased by the Nethercutt Collection from Zeke and Juanita Gurley of Quincy, Illinois in 2004. The Gurleys gave the car a restoration and finished it in dark blue over light blue, with black fenders and black wire wheels riding on whitewall tires. The overhead valve engine is mated to a three-speed manual transmission and the wheelbase measures 112.75 inches.

In 2011, this car was offered for sale at the Hershey, PA auction presented by RM Auctions. It was estimated to sell for $12,000 - $16,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold to the sum of $62,500 inclusive of buyer's premium.
