Chrysler automobiles were introduced in January of 1924 and built at the old Chalmers plant in Detroit. They offered better-than-average performance courtesy of its L-head six-cylinder engine with full-pressure lubrication and aluminum pistons. Its models were medium-priced and came with standard hydraulic brakes. Approximately 32,000 examples were sold during its first year making them an outstanding success.

View info and historyA four-cylinder model, a continuation of the Maxwell automobile, wore Chrysler badging from 1926 through 1928 when it became a Plymouth model. Also in 1926, the Chrysler Series E-80 was added to the lineup with distinctive styling and luxurious amenities. Many of the standard features were exclusive to this line and were powered by an L-head six-cylinder unit offering 92 horsepower at 3,000 RPM. For 1928, the Series 80 Imperial was available on a 120-, 127- and 133-inch wheelbase platform with factory and semi-custom bodies. The engine now offered 100 horsepower in standard guise while the 112 bhp with the high-compression 'Red Head' configuration. The engines were backed by a three-speed manual transmission with the Series 80 using a 4.83:1 ratio while the Series 80L had a 4.08:1 ratio. Standard equipment included bullet-shaped headlights, wind wings, leather exterior door trim panels, and Delco Remy ignition.The Series 80L used a 136-inch wheelbase.
