The BMW 535i replaced the 533i sedan and brought with it a larger, 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine that produced 182 horsepower. Another new feature was the addition of anti-lock disc brakes. The BMW 535i 4-door sedan sold for $30,760 and came equipped with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic. The suspension was comprised of MacPherson struts with lower control arms in the front and an Independent setup in the rear.
