The GMC Sonoma began life as the compact pickup truck Chevrolet S-10. When it was introduced in 1982, the version produced by GMC was called the S-15, before becoming the GMC Sonoma in 1991. In 1991, a high-performance version called the GMC Syclone was introduced. The engine found in the Sonoma in 1991 was a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine offering 105 horsepower. The GMC Syclone had a 4.3-liter V6 with a turbocharger and offered around 280 horsepower.
