1978 Chevron B43

1978 Chevron B43 1978 Chevron B43 1978 Chevron B43 The first Chevron was the B1, built in 1965, and was designed for clubmen formula speciation. It won its first time out. A number of vehicles followed from Chevron, until the B8, which cemented the company in worldwide fame. Unfortunately, in 1978, Derek Bennett - the founder of the company - passed away in a hang-gliding accident. The company's demise soon followed. The company went into liquidation in 1980 and was rescued. It continued in business selling continauti8on models of earlier Chevrons and replacement parts.

The B38 Formula 3 car was a modified and updated refinement of the previous B34 model. The B38 had a2 monocoque with detachable subframe with a double-wishbone front suspension setup. In the back were transverse links, wishbones and radius rods. The B38 would be very competitive, capturing around 20 overall victories. With a wide track and superb braking abilities, the B38 was a steady vehicle with good handling. Derek Daly won one of the British titles and de Angelis won the Italian championship.

In total, 28 examples of the B38 were constructed.

With Chevron enjoying success with their Formula 3 cars, high hopes were placed on their next installment. Unfortunately, the Chevron B43 fostered a reputation for being difficult to set up. Only the cars of Jim Crawford and Barry Green saw regular exercise in the UK. The Works efforts saw a few victories in Germany and Italy with driver Patrick Gaillard. A B43 nearly won at Monaco.

Around 15 examples were built. The B43 was the last Chevron without ground effects.
