1929 Bianchi S8

Like many automakers, Edoardo Bianchi got his start building bicycles in the mid-1880s. His company, named Bianchi, was formed in 1885, and automobile experimentation followed several years later, in 1899. Production followed a year later. At the same time, bicycle production also continued.

The early cars were small and simple, featuring a single-cylinder engine and high build quality. By 1901, horsepower rose to 8, and a two-speed transmission was installed.

In 1915, the company introduced the S1 with its 1244cc engine. During World War I, the company produced commercial vehicles in support of the war effort.

Where the S1 was a utilitarian vehicle, the S15 - introduced in 1919 - was a luxury car fitted with a very large four-cylinder engine displacing 1693cc. The S18 was introduced in 1922, and it had a 2-liter engine. In 1925, the S20 followed with a 50-horsepower engine.

During the 1920s and early 1930s, the company continued building both luxury and utilitarian cars.

During World War II, the company's facilities were destroyed. After the war, the facilities were rebuilt. Unfortunately, that same year Edoardo Bianchi perished in a car accident. The company continued for a few years, mostly with commercial vehicle production, but found it difficult to compete. In 1955, the company was transformed into the Autobianchi with the help of Fiat.
