2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMGHandcrafted AMG 5.5L biturbo V-8
With reduced displacement, numerous innovations and twin turbochargers, the advanced 5.5-liter V-8 of the ML63 AMG outputs a thunderous 518 @ 5,250 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque @ 1,750-5,000 rpm. While it bears the signature of the single technician who lovingly assembled it by hand, it's a high-tech powerhouse. Its twin turbochargers spin up to 185,000 rpm to dramatically boost low-end torque. High-pressure Direct Injection microscopically fine-tunes the fuel spray while rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times in a millisecond. Its 32 valves are driven by dual overhead camshafts that can precisely vary their timing by up to 40 degrees. Along wîth substantially improved efficiency and emissions, plus the everyday smoothness for which AMG engines are renowned, it also delivers 60 mph in a breathtaking 4.7 seconds.

7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG The 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission features exclusive AMG calibration and features to allow multiple degrees of driver involvement and response. Three driving modes can be selected via a console-mounted button: 'Controlled Efficiency' features a fuel-saving ECO Start/Stop function. 'Sport' mode raises the shift points to higher rpm. And a paddle-shifted 'Manual' mode allows direct sequential gear selection. In any mode, downshifts are rev-matched wîth a brief 'blip' of the throttle between gearchanges, for smoother engagement and more immediate power delivery upon acceleration.

4MATIC all-wheel drive

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG The full-time 4MATIC all-wheel drive features an AMG-specific transfer case wîth a permanent 40:60 front/rear torque split, for improved handling dynamics. In any season or road condition, 4MATIC™ all-wheel drive adds to your confidence and control. Always engaged and optimizing torque to every wheel, 4MATIC integrates wîth our standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) for maximum effectiveness in corners and slippery conditions. It also incorporates our 4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS), which monitors for the first sign of wheel slip and responds to ensure that torque is always sent to the wheels wîth the best grip -- even if that's only one wheel.

4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS)

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG For optimum traction, even in slippery conditions, 4MATIC all-wheel drive incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels wîth grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

AMG AIRMATIC sport suspension

2013 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMGThe 4-wheel independent AIRMATIC sport suspension features AMG calibration of its high-pressure air spring-struts and Adaptive Damping System (ADS). Components and their electronic controls enhance responsiveness while maintaining an impressive degree of ride comfort. The system's 4-wheel level control allows the driver to raise the vehicle for negotiating deep ruts or rugged terrain, while automatic lowering at higher speeds enhances both aerodynamic efficiency and handling stability, thanks to a lower center of gravity.

Adaptive Damping System

Vital Stats
Engine : 5.5 L., 8-cylinder
Power: 518 hp
Torque: 516 ft-lbs

7-speed Automatic
Incorporated into our innovative AIRMATIC air suspension, electronically controlled ADS automatically instantly varies the suspension characteristics according to the driving situation, reducing body roll, pitch and dive while maximizing agility and smoothness. ADS continually optimizes ride and handling by automatically selecting one of four damping profiles for each spring-strut every time a wheel changes its direction of up-down travel. In addition, the driver is able to choose from two suspension modes (Comfort and Sport) at the touch of a button.

ACTIVE CÚRVE SYSTEM

The ACTIVE CÚRVE SYSTEM incorporates active stabilizers to help control body lean during cornering maneuvers. Electrohydraulically variable stabilizer bars for the front and rear axles increases roll stiffness based on driving speed and lateral acceleration, as well as the driver-selection of the Adaptive Damping System's Sport mode. In addition to flatter, more confident cornering, the system also enhances comfort in straight-line driving and during gentle, sweeping turns.

Adaptive braking technology

Powerful 4-wheel disc brakes feature a number of advances. If you lift off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when you apply the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying periodically applies the brakes just enough to sweep water build-up from the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make long red lights or stopped traffic a little easier.

AMG high-performance braking system

AMG high-performance brakes shed both speed and heat wîth remarkable power, thanks to perforated and internally ventilated discs at all four wheels. Front discs measure 15.4 inches and are grasped by Silver-painted 6-piston fixed-type calipers. Rear brakes are 13.6 inches in diameter and feature Silver-painted single-piston sliding calipers.

AMG body styling

The visible muscle of the ML63 AMG offers ample evidence of its all-around capability. Performance cues dominate its powerful front end, from its adaptive Bi-Xenon headlamps and prominent louvered grille to its deep front air dam, whose functional mesh intakes feed vital air to the engine, intercoolers, and cooling systems for the engine and transmission oil. A matte-chrome strip underscores the air dam, highlights the LED Daytime Running Lamps, and draws the eye around to the widened front fenders and AMG side sills. At the rear, the aggressively sculpted AMG rear apron is pierced by two pairs of chrome tailpipes, outlined in matte chrome and divided by a black mesh central diffuser.

20-inch AMG 5-spoke wheels

Rugged yet remarkably lightweight, the standard 20-inch wheels are a new take on the signature AMG 5-spoke design, wîth a high-sheen finish and subtle Titanium Grey pockets. Measuring 9 inches in width, they're outfitted wîth 265/45R20 high-performance tires for an excellent balance of powerful grip and precise §teering feedback.

AMG sport §teering wheel

With its pronounced contouring, thick padding and Premium leather-wrapped rim, the 4-spoke AMG sport §teering wheel puts the delights of precise handling literally in the driver's hands. Dual aluminum AMG shift paddles provide instant control of gear changes while keeping the driver's hands on the wheel. Convenient multifunction controls do likewise while operating the most frequently needed vehicle features. Raised thumb rests are placed at the ideal '10 and 2 o'clock' positions. And the bottom section is flattened, not only to facilitate ingress and egress, but also to offer tactile feedback of the §teering wheel's rotational orientation.

COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST

At speeds above 20 mph, this new system's radar-based technology alerts the driver if they're approaching a vehicle ahead at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. It can also detect stationary objects when driving at speeds up to 40 mph. Its Adaptive Brake Assist automatically provides the ideal level of braking as soon as the driver steps on the brake pedal. And if deemed necessary, the system can also activate PRE-SAFE®. Along wîth helping to prevent or reduce the severity of a collision, the system's engagement of the brake lamps can help to alert the drivers behind your M-Class earlier as well.
