This Studebaker Indy Racing Special was one of five team cars entered in the 1933 Indianapolis 500 by the Studebaker factory. The car, wearing number 34, was driven by Tony Gulotta of Kansas City to a qualifying speed of 113.678 mph and would finish the 500-mile race in seventh place (with an average speed of 99 MPH). Over the course of history, four of the other 1933 cars have had their bodies changed. Thus, this is the only example to still be clothed with its original, high-cowl body that was formed in a wind tunnel at the University of Michigan. The car wears aluminum coachwork created by Rigling. Under the bonnet is a 336 cubic-inch, L-head, 8-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission.

The car was part of the Brooks Stevens Museum from 1955 through 1966. In 1997, the car was given a partial restoration.
