1992 Subaru SVX

The Giorgetto Giugiaro-penned SVX was produced from 1991 to 1996. It was the company's first attempt at a luxury performance car. Its exotic styling matched its performance, achieving 0-60 mph in just 7.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 154 mph. For 1992, the SVX had a base price of $26,250 and was available in two trim levels, the LS and the LS-L.

Within the Japanese market, the SVX was known as the Alcyone SVX, and it served as a replacement for the two-door Subaru XT (1985 to 1991).

The Subaru SVX rested on a 102.8-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 182.1 inches, a width of 69.7 inches, and a height of 51.6 inches. Subaru described the 'window-within-a-window feature as an 'aircraft-inspired glass-to-glass canopy.' It had softer bodylines than the preceding XT, two-piece power side windows, and a drag coefficient of Cd=0.29 (the same as the XT coupe). The undertray on European-marketed cars changed the drag coefficient slightly to Cd=0.285.

Some markets (Japan, Europe, and Brazil) received a VTD (variable torque distribution) all-wheel drive system with a planetary center differential. The ACT-4 (active torque split) used an electronic control unit to vary the torque applied to the rear wheels. This system was used throughout the entire production run for SVX models sold in the United States.

A total of 24,379 examples of the SVX were sold worldwide, with 14,257 sent to the United States and 2,478 in Europe. Approximately 7,000 examples had right-hand drive configuration.
