A five-speed manual was standard with a four-speed automatic available. For 1993, Volkswagen celebrated 37 years of offering a convertible by offering a Collector's Edition. Two years prior, in 1991, they had celebrated 35 years of open motoring with the 'Etienne Aigner' designer edition and an optional power top.The base models received leatherette upholstery option. Also, the audio systems were upgraded and a CD player joined the option list.
